Review: Books of the Bible At-a-Glance Printables

Studying the Bible is one of my favorite pastimes and I’m always looking for ways to share the information with others and teach my children. Recently, I’ve been using Books of the Bible At-a-Glance from Teach Sunday School as an overview of the whole Bible for my chronological reading program. These printables have made introducing new books easier during my personal study and homeschool teaching time.

Books of the Bible At-a-Glance is a package that contains a separate introductory information sheet about each of the 66 books within the Bible. The information is printed onto an 8.5-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper with color coordinated titles and bullet points. After purchasing, this PDF document is immediately available for instant download and printing.

What is included

The Basics: The first thing you’ll notice on the top part of these sheets are what I call “the basics.” This includes the book title, its location within the bible, and when it was written. The author is also provided which is important because not all books are named after their authors. Some children and adults don’t realize a few authors wrote multiple books in the Old and New Testaments.
Claims to Fame: This section provides unique or spectacular details of what is in that book. For example, Leviticus is known for containing the laws for the Hebrew people. Titus focuses on redemption and the necessary act of Jesus becoming flesh.

Covering this Time Period: The major and minor prophets speak on things that hadn’t happened during their lifetime or haven’t happened yet. Don’t be alarmed if you see dates like 520 BC – Future, as shown in Zechariah because this means some prophesies are yet to be fulfilled.

Famous Stories: This category is only found in the Old Testament and shows a list of popular narratives.
Problems or Issues this Book is Addressing: This category is only found on the New Testament sheets and provides a synopsis of things discussed.
Most Famous Verses: This list was crafted by scripture popularity searches, most chosen in America, and those referred to frequently by scholars.
Important Points About this Book: This feature is an outline of events or the overall message and engaging things about the book.

Currently, I am working through a chronological Bible reading plan. I’m using the Books of the Bible At-a-Glance to look over each book as I started reading it. I’ve also used these when working with Bear during Bible time. He appreciated that the answers to most frequently asked questions were already available on this handout. I printed the entire file, double sided and then laminated it. I’m still deciding how I will store my set. I’m either going to punch the set and add Happy Planner rings or store it in a three-ring binder. Some bibles have a similar introduction page at the beginning of each book of the Bible. However, this printable ensures that you don’t have to flip back and forth to gather or review information.

Overall, I like the layout of these pages and how each gives a brief overview of what the reader can expect while studying. The PDF format makes it easy to print or just store in your Dropbox and use as needed. Books of the Bible At-a-Glance, by Teach Sunday School, gives insight on the characters, stories, teachings, placement, and context of the passages within the Bible. These reference pages offer the necessary background information for study or lesson preparation. These would also make great handouts for adult Sunday school classes and for children over 10. As you work through a new book, the students should be encouraged to keep the worksheets and create a notebook with them.

  1. I paid for a subscription to add a glance books of the Bible reference sheets. However, now that I want to print some of them, I don’t know how to access the sheets. Please advise.

  2. I ordered the book by book summary of the Bible and also the quick notes and never got them. They processed my payments — so what is going on ???

    1. That sounds like an issue you need to take up with the company. I received mine immediately via email and the page refreshed with a download link. These are not mailed to you, it is PDF files that you print at your leisure. Be sure to contact the company for more information about your order.
