Make Weekly Worship a Priority

After missing three services I was elated to be back at my home church. Visiting other churches while with family was nice but I definitely couldn’t wait to return to our church. While away I was reminded of the importance of weekly worship and wanted to share three ways we make it a priority.

Be Present! Attending weekly worship service is important to help mature you in the word of God. The fellowship is also vital to our walk because we are strengthened when surrounded by our brethren. I am not suggesting that you are there every time the doors open. However, I do implore you to attend services and participate in the ministries that apply to you and your family.

This not only applies to your attendance but to your mental state as well. Worship preparation begins by preparing your heart and mind at home. Make time during the week to revisit your favorite sermons. Study the Bible by committing to a plan on a Bible app. **Disclaimer: Please apply balance. Perfect attendance would be wonderful but it is not required to be a Christian.**

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:23‭-‬25 ESV

Be On Time! As a mother, I definitely understand things can pop up and interfere with getting somewhere on time. That’s why I suggest that you control what you can by preparing in advance. Prepping outfits the night before or waking up 15 minutes earlier just might be the habit that gets you to church on time. Moment of transparency: I cannot stress this enough to myself. Being on time ensures that you have a seat, that the service or event can flow without interruption, and that you receive everything you need from all parts.

Be Available to Serve! Are you volunteering for things at least once quarterly? Are you participating in the activities offered by various ministries? Events cannot happen at church without volunteers! Serving the Lord goes beyond your destiny to fulfill God’s calling on your life. This is about your willingness to be faithful to the daily work of the church. Truly serving aids others enriches the body of Christ, and is part of our sovereign purpose.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 KJV

Did you know this speaking to people that you attend church with is also considered a part of the service? When we attend worship we should be speaking to the people that we know and reaching out to those that we don’t. Each Sunday I try to introduce myself to somebody new or somebody that I’m not familiar with. These moments can happen before worship or afterward but they are so important to ensure the church feels like a community of like-minded believers. Plus, you never know how a “hello,” hug, compliment, or repeating the “turn to your neighbor phrase” can help someone get through the day or week.

I’m writing this blog not just as an encouragement to you but as a serious reminder to myself. Church attendance uplifts our spirit, provides a comforting fellowship, and sets the tone for the week. We should do our earnest to be present, be on time, and be available to serve. I pray that these tips were helpful to you and your household. I also hope you enjoyed the photos of my family attending worship services and other church events included throughout this post.

Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word]; and let us consider [thoughtfully] how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together [as believers for worship and instruction], as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more [faithfully] as you see the day [of Christ’s return] approaching.
Hebrews 10:23‭-‬25 Amplified Bible
