BEARS REVIEW:
Recently, I finished I Survived The Nazi Invasion, 1944 by Lauren Tarshis and read by Johnathan McClain. After their father is taken away by Nazis, Max and Zena do their best to survive. Their story covers the ups, downs, and in between of life in area referenced throughout the book as the Polish ghetto. During their journey they were on the run and eventually ended up in a Resistance Safe Camp led by local residents. My favorite part was learning about their family members and the various reunions they had while fleeing to safety. I recommend this for children 10 and up but only after a parent has explained this war to them.

I enjoyed listening to I Survived The Nazi Invasion, 1944 by Lauren Tarshis and read by Johnathan McClain. As usual, Lauren found a creative way to share details of this time period while honoring the sensitivity of the tragedy. As Max and Zena are going from place to place you’re able to create a clear visual of their surroundings. When they were nervous, so was I as we listened and wondered if safety was near. Having the children reunite with family was also my favorite part of this book. As usual, the author includes details of the time period in an added track on this CD set. I agree with Bear’s recommendation and encourage a discussion before reading this book.
