BOTW: Shadows of Swanford Abbey by Julie Klassen

Shadows of Swanford Abbey by Julie Klassen is the perfect match of mystery and romance that will keep you on your toes. This story is set in England in 1820 and the author pays homage to that era with every word. Rebecca Lane is introduced as she returns to her home village and subsequently agrees to help her brother. He asks her to take his manuscript to a famous writer staying at the Swanford Abbey. Though this grand hotel has been updated in some areas, it still has a creepy reputation of being haunted. As Rebecca searches for a way to fulfill her task she runs into her former beloved and landlord, Sir Frederick Wilford. He is a recent widower that happens to notice those old feelings for Rebecca coming back up again. There’s just one issue, he is also trying to solve the murder of the famous writer her brother, John was looking for.

  • How far will Rebecca go to help her brother, John?
  • Will her allegiance to her brother hinder the chance at acquiring unrequited love?
  • Can the Swanford Abbey handle the secrets carried over during the transformation from a convent to a grand hotel?

I was excited to read Shadows of Swanford Abbey by Julie Klassen because the author shared it as an ode to Agatha Christie and Jane Austen. I also enjoyed that there were several mysteries to solve before the ultimate truth was revealed. If you enjoy historical fiction and mysteries then this book is for you!
