Top 3 Tips to Help You READ More

Reading is a hobby that I’ve enjoyed since childhood and my love for books has increased over the years. As a child, I enjoyed mysteries and recently introduced Bear to the Hank the Cowdog series. It makes me smile when he retells the stories I remember from childhood. Even, my younger two love listening to books and learning how to read.

As awesome as reading is, I know it can be hard to find time to do it. Here are three quick tips I implemented to read more.

  1. Make it a family affair by reading a book together or meeting in the same room to read. After you read, encourage conversation by asking content questions. Even younger children can tell you their favorite things, favorite characters, and how the book made them feel.
  2. Turn off the television and put away devices so you can focus. Rather than coming together and watching TV, make an effort to turn off the television and swap that show for a book. Don’t play with your phone or scroll through social media either. By doing this just twice a week you’ll be able to read much more.
  3. Audio books count too! We like listening to books while riding in the car rather than music. We just finished The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and everyone enjoyed the different character voices. After we listened to the book, we watched the movie and discussed comparisons to the book.

It doesn’t take much to add a bit of reading to your day. Keep including this time and before long, you’ll be finishing books rapidly. My summer reading list is long but you can see what I’m taking on via this YouTube video.

I recently finished Shaunti Feldhahn’s The Kindness Challenge and here are my thoughts on that book.

I also have a list featuring my five favorite family read alouds in this video.

So, what is next on your reading list?

Make this week grand,
