Think back to the day you said “I do” to the love of your life and vowed to keep the covenant of marriage forever. Wasn’t that a great day? Now fast forward to the day you realized that the wonderful person you married was not as “perfect” as you thought and your marriage wasn’t either. Wasn’t that day super wacktastic?
Let’s stay in that moment for a bit.
I remember that specific moment and it was horrible. We had been married two years and our Thanksgiving holiday was ruined by a huge family argument that resulted in me storming out of my in-laws home with our firstborn. I remember thinking How could a Christian woman not think that her marriage will work? I’m saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost so shouldn’t my marriage be perfect? If we are arguing every day is God still in my marriage? I’m a Proverbs 31 Woman in training and I don’t remember reading about this!
Now fast forward a bit, time has passed, you’re back in love and you realize that you moved on from that desperate situation. Touch your face. Check the date on the calendar. You’re still here! Nothing like a trip down memory lane to remind you that you’ve made it through things you deemed unbearable.
The point of this blog post is to remind you that life happens. Every day our lives is not going to be perfect. In fact, if you read the Bible you will see what kind of days we are promised while on earth. But God is still there if you believe in him in and abide by his word. Continue to be the wife that your husband needs and in return he will be the husband that you so desire. Those rough patches are coming to make your union stronger and will eventually be testimony that helps other couples along their journey.
Your marriage is not perfect and that is okay because EVERY MARRIAGE HAS A BLOOPER REEL!
To see some of our silly marriage bloopers take a look at this quick video of hilarious out takes.
Jimmy Evans of Marriage Today says “marriage is a covenant, not a contract.” You’ve made a vow to God that you would stay together for better or for worse. Understand that your marriage is designed by God to be blessed in abundance that will pour over to other generations. Every situation you originally deemed imperfect and then conquered, is actually what makes the artwork of your matrimony unique and beautiful. You may not appreciate the struggles of life but they are necessary to make your marriage stronger and a testament that God’s word still works. There is also an added benefit that your testimony will strengthen other married Believers to press on and endure trials together through faith in the Most High God.
Be encouraged! Remember your marriage survived whatever “that” was so you are equipped to succeed and built to handle whatever your current “this” is. Your marriage is victorious! Together you two can overcome anything!
