LightSail: Online literary & Language Arts platform for homeschoolers

Today’s review features a detailed look at LightSail for Homeschoolers. This website is a reading centered, adaptive language arts platform for students in K-12th grade. We received the one-year, Premium Subscription online membership for each of our children. This website was created for homeschoolers, by homeschool graduates that have firsthand experience in what our students need.

LightSail for Homeschoolers focuses on building and growing Language Arts skills for students of all ages. Their four pillars of literature comprehension include reading, writing, fluency, and vocabulary. By using this program your student perfects their writing skills, learns the process of writing development, and can even publish their own books via Book Sharing. Fluency increases as they connect speaking, listening, writing, and memorization with various subjects.

My children used their Premium Subscription daily, even on the weekends when we didn’t have school. This subscription is available in monthly or annual options to best suit any family budget. There are also options to choose or add a World Book Kids or World Book PreK subscription. This adds additional content including games, videos, photographs, and books.

There are thousands of books, videos, Bibles, and other public domain content provided with our LightSail subscription. You can also adjust the type of faith-based content your children view according to denomination and beliefs. This gives you the ability to curate your family’s library with special content that is perfect for them.

There are many pre-made lesson plans, secular and faith-based, included in your LightSail subscription. These lessons include assigned reading, supplemental videos, discussion questions, memory verses, vocabulary, assessments, quizzes, teaching notes, and instructions educator instructions. The pre-made plans can also be customized to include additional games and activities. Your child can also create their own lesson plans and share those with the family or church youth group. Can you imagine your 8-year-old presenting a Bible study lesson? It is truly possible with the options of this subscription.

The Parental Controls are my next favorite feature of our LightSail Premium Subscription. With the ChildSafe Content Controls I’m able to completely oversee all my children’s online use and make adjustments as needed. You can also change content to ensure it aligns with your faith and values. There are also subcategories for potentially objectionable material and it shows parents if a book contains a reference to any of those subcategories. From there, you can choose to allow the content, block, pick single titles, or block the entire subcategories. After the time we spent using LightSail for Homeschoolers, we think it is a great addition to our homeschool. The features of the Premium Subscription and added options fit well for all of my Cool Kids.
