This weekly book share will be a review of Nothing by Natalee Creech. This story features a child’s view of Romans 8:38-39 and how nothing can separate us from the love of God. This uplifting book was published by WorthyKids, an imprint of Hachette Book Group.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38â€-‬39 KJV
Each page in Nothing takes your child on a new adventure while using simple text to explain the all-reaching power of God’s love. The children travel through storms, to outer space, climb the highest mountain, and enter an icy cave. As each situation is described, the text explains how God’s love is powerful, strong, and neverending. All 32 pages feature beautiful imagery and large words which are clearly visible for early readers.
Joseph Cowman’s illustrations are also worth noting! His attention to detail and his eye for adventure can be seen throughout the book. The characters and combinations of color paired well with the text in front of him. It is quite obvious that he cared for this project because the pictures stand out on every page. Even my husband commented on how these were some of the best illustrations he has seen in a children’s book.
Since we received this book we have read it 12 times at story time, book club, and before bed. My children liked the artwork and easy to understand, rhyming script. My favorite part was how personal shortcomings don’t keep us from God’s care. I used this as an opportunity to explain repentance and forgiveness to my younger children. I described the importance of being confident in God’s unstoppable love.
Nothing by Natalee Creech is currently available from various retailers online and in store. We recommend this book to be read in any setting to children ages 3-8. Please visit the website for details on where to purchase near you.
